Letter From Our Pastor

BOSS,

It has been a wild ride since we moved into 2326 Florin Road. We have changed as individuals, as a church, and a world. We moved to 2326 with the goal of making it the permanent headquarters of BOSS Church, a place in which we can encounter the Lord and go out to build His kingdom. The first month in the building, we saw amazing momentum as an average of 40 people joined the church every Sunday, we were well on our way to no longer being a mobile church, and then the world stopped.

Along with every other church, we found ourselves in uncharted waters. We dealt with anxiety, fear, and division. The pandemic and the shelter in place found us having to pivot in ways we never imagined. It was extremely difficult; we made mistakes and learned lessons but, we were reminded yet again that God is faithful. The Lord is so faithful that when more than 5,000 churches closed in 2020 and again in 2021, BOSS remains!

It is this reminder of His faithfulness that moves us forward into our next season and beyond. God's faithfulness to BOSS has been constant and stirs our faith for our next steps towards the vision the Holy Spirit has given us. As you look through the following pages you will see how myself, and our leadership team, have laid out the plan to move us into the vision of God for BOSS. I pray as you read the vision that you will be able to run with it in grace and joy, and with a heart of passion and sacrifice. We are called to transform every community the Lord places us in, may we continue the path our founding Pastor, Bishop Carthen, started us on and press toward the mark of this high call. Let us build the church and reach the world!

BOSS Church was founded in 2005, as Bayside of South Sacramento. Pastor Carthen, along with Ray Johnston, saw a need for a culturally and ethnically diverse church. Pastor Carthen thought South Sacramento would be the perfect setting. BOSS Church opened its doors at Luther Burbank High School and continued to bounce around between different schools and colleges. Eventually settling at Campus 44, where BOSS would eventually lose the beloved Pastor Carthen. For several years, BOSS was without a head pastor.

Pastor Darryl Scarborough was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He served as the Teaching Pastor and Director of Discipleship for the Salem Baptist Church of Chicago. He is an anointed preacher of God’s Word, with a specific call to help individuals realize and maximize their God-given purpose. Pastor Darryl’s ministry has not only impacted believers but extends beyond the four walls of the Church to transform the lives of people in prisons, detention centers, hospitals, and schools in cities across the nation and as far away as Sweden and South Africa. His personal testimony of rebellion and running from God challenges people to overcome life’s struggles, while his preaching ministry empowers them to serve God’s call with boldness and authority. In 2016, Pastor Darryl became the head pastor at BOSS Church. Under Pastor Darryl’s lead, BOSS Church moved to the current home. BOSS Church has opened its doors to many different ministries, and continues to do God’s work in South Sacramento.
